Course Description:

This course explores the principles and methodologies for creating effective educational experiences. Learners will learn to analyse the needs, develop objectives, design assessments, and create engaging instructional materials using various technologies. The course emphasises on practical application and evidence-based strategies to enhance learning outcomes.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to;

  1. Understand the foundational theories and models of instructional design
  2. Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify learning requirements
  3. Develop clear, measurable learning objectives
  4. Design instructional strategies and materials that promote effective learning
  5. Create and utilise various assessment tools to measure learning outcomes
  6. Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance instructional delivery
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials and make necessary improvements

Course Outline:

Module One:

  • Learn the history and evolution of Instructional Design
  • Learn key theories and models (e.g., ADDIE, Bloom's Taxonomy Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction)

Module Two:

  • Identifying learning needs and gaps
  • Techniques for conducting needs assessments (e.g., surveys, interviews, observation)
  • Analysing data to inform instructional design

Module Three:

  • Crafting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound objectives
  • Aligning objectives with learner needs and instructional goals

Module Four:

  • Choosing appropriate instructional strategies (e.g., direct instruction, collaborative learning, problem-based learning)
  • Sequencing and structuring content
  • Engaging diverse learners
